TETfund Centre of Excellence in Skills, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development in Yaba College of Technology was established in 2021, the institution was selected as a beneficiary and one of the six polytechnic Centres of Excellence (CoE) in Nigeria. The Centre of Excellence will support Yaba College of Technology to promote specialization in skill areas that address priority national challenges and strengthen the capacities of the institution to deliver quality training and applied research. It has a strategic vision, addressing specific development challenges through cutting edge applied research and skills training using best practices.
Centres of Excellence are potent instruments for nation building, and the CoE in Yabatech has the potential to realize human resource development, improve organizational capacity and create an institutional and legal framework in research and skills development including its effects on innovation and socio-economic development.
Centres of Excellence are organizational environments that strive for, and succeed in, developing high standards of conduct in a field of research, skills development, innovation and learning.
The three (3) strategic aims for the establishment of the TETfund Centre of Excellence in Skills, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, Yaba College of Technology are:
1. To support strategic applied research and expertise
2. Bringing together the complimentary resources needed for skills development and industrial application
3. Bridging the gap between researchers, academia, community, industry and policy makers.
The CoE in Yabatech will partner with industry with the aim of commercialization of research products. The desired outcomes of the Tetfund Centre of Excellence include:
1. Promoting national/regional development
2. Demonstrating capacity for excellence in learning, skill acquisition and innovations
3. Benchmarking research excellence and product development
4. Attaining financial sustainability
5. Enhancing institutional ranking and global competitiveness
